 We need reasonable action from leaders and community members. The requirement for a mask needs to become widespread, especially as cases and hospitalizations continue to increase. Only common sense and strong leadership will help us weather this pandemic and help us avoid taking a step back and shutting the economy down again. We need leadership. We need human decency. We need you to wear a mask. While New York may have resolved the situation, the pandemic was already a tsunami across the United States, rising to more than 50,000 new cases per day and eclipsing the highest total in one day (55,000). so far on July 2nd . These are not the items that you want to link. And we have lost control of the momentum achieved by stopping the spread in the Northeast. Florida, Texas, Arizona and California account for nearly half of the daily new cases, but not all have a statewide masking mission. The latest surge in cases in the South and West is not the second wave of COVIDs. The first one never ends. 

This is not about freedoms or the Constitution. In fact, this is not the time for politics. COVID-19 doesn't care if you live in red or blue state. This is working together for a common goal of ultimately preventing this pandemic. Wearing a mask means that you care for your family, neighbors and friends your age. The loss of life brought pain to too many people. Here in New York, we cannot let our guard down. We cannot recall what we have lost and suffered. It would be irresponsible and unacceptable to reject actions that slow our growth and push us through to the top. Even when the state reopens, wearing a mask and paying attention to your surroundings is the least you can do.
